Rockets Ready for Fall Playoffs

October 28, 2025

• Everything you need to know heading into the fall postseason.

Four Needham teams — boys and girls soccer, field hockey, and girls volleyball — have all qualified for the MIAA Division One State Tournament this season. On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the MIAA released the brackets for field hockey and girls volleyball.

Field hockey earned the No. 24 seed in the tournament following an impressive 3-1 upset over No. 7 Concord-Carlisle to close out their regular season. In their first year under new head coach Tessa Taylor, the Rockets finished with a record of 5-11-2. They will go on the road to face No. 9 Acton Boxborough on Friday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. The Needham Channel will be there to record a broadcast that will air the following day. If the Rockets upset the Revolution, they would face the winner of No. 8 Andover vs. No. 25 Chelmsford.

Despite putting together another impressive season with a 15-2 record, Needham girls volleyball earned the No. 10 seed in their tournament. They will host No. 23 Haverhill at the A-Gym on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. If they win that game, they will go on the road to face either No. 7 Winchester and No. 26 North Andover. Unfortunately for the Rockets, they are in the same section of the bracket as No. 2 Newton North, who they have lost twice to this season, and would face the Tigers in the quarterfinal round if both teams advance that far.
