• Needham took the regular season series with the Redhawks, but could meet them again in the postseason.
The Bay State Conference has featured the three best teams in the MIAA Boys Volleyball Division 1 rankings most of this spring and on Friday, #1 Needham topped one of those other two teams, #3 Natick, in four sets. Needham swept the season series with the Redhawks. #2 Newton North is the only team to beat the Rockets this year and they’ve done it twice.
Natick started strong, beating Needham 25-18 in the first set, before the Rockets stormed back and won each of the next three sets by that same 25-18 score. In the first set, both teams went back and forth, tied at 14 midway through. But Natick took control 21-16 and kept going for the win.
The second set started off close, but Needham took control, going up 20-15 before tying the game at one set apiece. The Rockets kept much of the momentum in the third, but never fully pulled away.
The fourth and final set was again controlled by Needham, but the Redhawks came back, closing to within one, at 15-14, before the Rockets came back, took a 21-15 lead and closed out the game.
Both teams will now await the release of the MIAA playoff brackets, set to be announced on Tuesday, May 28th.
